HISTORY OF THE GAME
Lacrosse is considered to be America’s first sport.
The sport of lacrosse was played at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis, which marked the first time that lacrosse had been featured at the Olympic Games. Only three men’s teams competed — two from Canada and one from the USA. One of the Canadian teams consisted entirely of Mohawk Indian players.
Lacrosse is a combination of basketball, soccer and hockey. Anyone can play lacrosse; the big or the small. The game requires and rewards coordination and agility, not brawn. Quickness and speed are two highly prized qualities in lacrosse. An exhilarating sport, lacrosse is fast-paced and full of action.
Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing team sports in the United States. No sport has grown faster at the high school level over the last 20 years. Lacrosse is also the fastest-growing sport over the last 10 years at the NCAA level.

By the inspiration of the Warrior’s Lacrosse founder Tom Siebert, in 2010 we decided to start a youth developmental program for the Jefferson County Area. This sport has affected so many kids and people in so many ways that we wanted to honor him of how one individual had the time and ambition to bring this sport to the area. So all of us that have ever played this sport that we love; is because of him…So we say Thank You!
HOW IT ALL STARTED…
Siebert has been playing the game since 1990 – after he and friends watched a demonstration of the game at halftime of the St. Louis Ambush game. A Warrior linebacker from ’87-90, he convinced enough people to form a club team at his alma matter and raised money from among the players for sticks, protective pads, uniforms, balls and league membership fees.
Weather it’s because ESPN has stepped up television coverage or because ice hockey players need something to do in the spring time, the sport of lacrosse become the fastest growing sport in the last 20 years.
HISTORY OF LACROSSE IN JEFFERSON COUNTY, MISSOURI
1995- Warrior Lacrosse is established by Tom Siebert- “The first fifteen” JV High School Team
1996- The first year for a Varsity xjobs.org/ High School Team (22) players- Joined 11 teams in Missouri
1997- Varsity High School Team– (19) players
1998- Added a Junior Varsity Team- (17) V players and (12) – JV players
1999- Varsity High School & Junior Varsity- (19) V players and (15) JV Players
2000- Varsity High School Team Only- Mike Martin appointed Head Coach
2001- Varsity High School Team Only
2002- Varsity High School Team Only – Jeff Spink appointed Head Coach
2003- Varsity High School Team Only
2004- Started the first youth program in Jefferson County- Warrior -U15
2005- Added a second age group for the youth lacrosse program- Warrior-U13
2005- Added a Freshman High School Team- (14) Players
2005- Warrior Lacrosse establishes a Board to oversee the program
2006- Varsity High School- First Winning Season- Missed playoffs in loss to Kirkwood
2006- Warrior Lacrosse Program- Varsity, JV, Freshman, U13, U15- Over 75 kids
2007- Warrior Lacrosse Program- Varsity, JV, Freshman, U13, U15- Over 75 kids
2008- Warrior High School Team wins the first Division II – Missouri State Championship
2008- Warrior Lacrosse Program- Varsity, JV, Freshman, U15, U13- Over 100 kids
2008- Local Men’s Lacrosse Team is established – Hicks with Sticks- (18 and older)
2009- Warrior High School Team- Division Champs
2010- Warrior High School Team- Division Champs
2010- Started the second youth program in Jefferson County– Jaguar Lacrosse- U13 & U15
2010- Jefferson County Lacrosse Association is established
2010- First JCLA Youth Summer Team- Jr Hicks- U15
2010- JCLA Sponsored the St. Louis Shoot-Out- (8) team Mens LAX Tournament
2011- Started a second local Junior Varsity High School team- Jaguar Lacrosse
2012- Started a second Varsity High School Team- Jaguar Lacrosse
2013- Started a third youth program- Jefferson County Blue Jays – U9, U11 & U13
2014- MSLA- Honors Tom Siebert – Man of the year (Founding Father of Jeffco Lacrosse)
2015- JCLA – Multiple Youth Camps, Summer Teams & Fall 7 on 7 League for Youth & High School
2016- Jacob Siebert Memorial Trophy “Jeffco Cup” is established for the local high School teams
2016- JCLA- Helps Sponsors the first local Semi-Pro Box Lacrosse Team – St. Louis Centurions
2016- JCLA- First Winter “Box” Lacrosse Team- Jeffco Bandits- (15-16yr)
2017- JCLA- Box Lacrosse Team “Jeffco Bandits” wins Championship- Midget Division
2017- Fox Warrior Lacrosse – Mitchell Davies Wins the St. Louis Region – US Lacrosse Bob Scott Award
2017- Missouri US Lacrosse Men’s Commitment Award- Rob Nash (Godfather of Jeffco Lacrosse)
2018- Men’s Semi-Pro Box Lacrosse Team is Established – Missouri Mastodons
2021 – USA Lacrosse STL Chapter – Tamara Boots Youth Commitment Award – Rob Nash
2021- MSLA- Seckman makes first playoff appearance
2021 – Show-Me Cup State Finals Runner-up – Seckman
2021- JCLA- First High School Girl’s team competes at JV level
2022- Warrior Girl’s Lacrosse Club is formed to compete at all high school levels
